If IBM's customers want to support Mozilla, (and certainly the Linux crowd, along with the Sun crowd, part of the Mac crowd, and a considerable Windows crowd all do) then it's in IBM's interest to have Domino server work as well as possible with Mozilla. Updating some of the key apps to work with the ECMA DOM implementation in Mozilla would be a great start.

Further, by providing a client-side transform engine for Mozilla that installed with the base browser, IBM would position itself to have Domino target that smart-client capability. This would create a substantial opportunity for the Domino server to generate remarkably efficient web sites that could leapfrog the competition.

Focusing on IE means focusing on what's really a custom client/server application -- ultimately the real problem with the native Notes client. How much harder is it to sell a solution that requires the client than to sell a solution that's client agnostic? Focusing on general web standards (in part by helping define them) allows for much greater platform support and grows the target market for Domino licenses.
